Thank you for considering one of our puppies. I invite and encourage you to read the different areas of our website. The information that is posted will put you at ease. “Dogs” are the main focus of our family. It is important to us that you know and understand the amount of time that we put into each and every one of the dogs that are in our care. If this section has not answered the questions that you have, please do not hesitate to call. We welcome calls at anytime.
WHELPING
Every litter that is raised in our home, start their lives in our house. Our whelping box is where I can be of assistance if need be. The puppies are kept in the house until they are 5 weeks old. At five weeks of age, they are moved to my home office where they start to see traffic and stimuli. We have two cats as well as two lovely children who are 13 and 15. Not much will phase or startle these puppies once they have lived their first couple of months in our house.
WEANING
I start to introduce food to the pups around 5 weeks of age. When momma is outside, the puppies are offered food several times a day. By the time I wean the puppies they are doing very well on their puppy food. Momma spends less and less time with them during the 5th week and by 6 weeks I like to have the babies weaned. This leaves 2 weeks, without momma and on their own for their meals, before they start moving to new homes at 8 weeks .
6 TO 8 WEEKS of Age
This is a critical time for the puppies and one of the most demanding of our families’ time and care. This is where our children play such an important role. When our puppies are weaned, I split the litter up into groups of 2 or 3. This helps them start to learn independence and not to rely on the “Pack”. I have found that you end up with less dominance, submission, and passive behavior. I have very “Even Tempered” puppies. At 6 weeks of age they are also started with their potty and crate training. They are introduced to “potty pads” when they are inside and weather permitting, they take lots of trips outside to play with the thr children. All of our puppies are put in their crates at nightand not disturbed until morning.
HEATH CARE AND PREVENTION
The health of our puppies is critical to us.
- 2-4-6-8 weeks of age, the puppies are dewormed with Pyrentol.
- 7-10-14 weeks of age, the puppies are vaccinated for Distemper/Parvo.
- All routine medical needs are continued until they reach their new homes.
HEALTH CERTIFICATE
I work very closely with our local veterinarian. He does a complete exam on every one of my puppies before they leave to go to their new family. At this visit he signs a “Health Certificate” stating that he feels our puppies are healthy and free of infectious disease. Many critical areas are checked and evaluated during this puppy exam such as: heart, lungs, eyes, ears, bite, throat, flexion of hips as well as overall skin, coat and body condition. Each puppy’s temperature is taken and the puppy is checked for external parasites such as fleas, ticks and ear mites. I can say, with 100% certainty, that every one of our puppies have passed their Puppy Exam with flying colors!
Because, we never know when one of our puppies is going to be adopted, we pride ourselves on raising every one of them like they are staying forever. The puppy that you receive will be healthy, happy and well socialized. We appreciate your considering one of ours to be one of yours, and if your questions have not been answered in this presentation, give us a call and we would be happy to visit with you.
